New Location!
On September 1, 2007, after practicing in downtown D.C.
for 27 years, we moved to downtown Silver Spring! Our
offices, in the Silver Spring Metro Plaza complex, are
nicer, and we have better amenities. We are still very
convenient to the Metrorail, and are quite accessible
by buses (both Metrobus and Ride On) and by car. We are
subletting from Gary M. Gilbert and Associates and plan
to be here at least five years!
New Associate!
Rachelle Ware,
who was our law clerk in 2006-07, graduated from George
Washington University Law School in May,
and has rejoined us. She took the Virginia Bar this summer
and on October 29 was admitted to the Virginia Bar. Congratulations,
Rachelle! Rachelle is now an associate in the firm.
Mr. Banov’s Democratic Party Activities
In September 2006 Mr. Banov was re-elected to the Montgomery
County Democratic Central Committee as an at-large member,
and in October he was elected Vice-Chair by his MCDCC
colleagues. He is also Chair of the MCDCC Issues Committee.
His contacts with elected officials in the County and
State have proven helpful in his efforts to promote legislation
which helps employees. For example, he is currently asking
Maryland legislators to change the Maryland law which
limits what attorneys can charge claimants in unemployment
appeals, Md. Ann. Code, Labor and Employment, Sec. 8-507(b).
By regulation, the limit is only $100, though this can
be increased through a petition. With other members of
MWELA, Mr. Banov is talking with Maryland Senators and
Delegates about changing the law and regulation.
In the
primary election on September 2002, Mr. Banov was elected
to the Montgomery County Democratic Central
Committee (MCDCC) as an at-large member. He has been
serving on various committees on the MCDCC. Previously
he was president of the District 18 Democratic Caucus
(which consists of Kensington and parts of Chevy Chase,
Wheaton, and Silver Spring). In October 2003 he served, with some judges, in a Georgetown
University Law Center conference, "Litigating Employment
Cases: Views from the Bench." He helped moderate
and spoke on trial tips.
As you can see elsewhere on the site, by early January
2004, we will have moved to 1819 L Street, N.W., Washington,
D.C. 20036-3830. We were on that block in 1999-2000,
before moving to our current location. We look forward
to showing you our new offices!
